In Glacier Poetry he has produced a fine album with a laudable musical and cultural agenda. RootsWorld
Terje Isungset is one of Europe’s most accomplished and innovative percussionists. With over two decades experience in jazz and Scandinavian music he is taking these types of music far beyond their traditional boundaries, becoming more like a cross between a sound artist and a shaman.

Crafting his own instruments from Norwegian natural elements such as arctic birch, granite, slate, sheep bells and even ice, he is highly recommended to those sensible to the poetry and simplicity of sounds. “Timbres” and “colours” are central in Terje Isungsets music and compositions. In the press, his work has often been described as innovative, visual, energetic, and different from any previously known concepts. Isungset has also been commissioned to compose music for Jazz Festivals, Dance Performances, Theatre, Film, etc. (40 commissed concerts) His composition efforts have also brought many critically acclaimed solo CD`s. In January 2021 Terje built an igloo high up in the mountains of Norway at Bergsjøstølen to create his latest release, with the frozen structure being Terje’s unique recording studio for the entire winter. When listening to the album you are invited into an intimate snowy abode measuring just 6m², where all the instruments are made from ice – featuring an Iceofone, Ice Percussion, Ice Drums and Ice Horns. Glacial Poetry’s largely solo recording shows Terje’s life long passion for adapting elements of the natural environment into delicate sounding instruments, proving that water not only gives our planet life but when frozen, also produces sublime sounding music.

Ocean Memories recorded at Svalbard on May the 2nd 2019. Location: by the ocean and nearby a glacier north of Longyearbyen. Supported by 11 degrees below celcius and a gentle midnight sun.
